Waste and recycling operators in London and across the South East are opting for RVS re-manufactured vehicles as a cost effective alternative to buying new. From start up businesses such as Equinox Recycling to established companies like London Waste Solutions, a re-manufactured vehicle offers the same lifetime and operational capacity, but without the huge capital cost, saving an average of up to 40% off the cost of a new vehicle.
Andy Gibbons has been in the waste management sector for over 20 years and has just set up Equinox Recycling, providing a recycling collection service for businesses in the South East. Beginning with a truck and trailer and roll-on roll-off vehicle, customer demand soon required that Andy purchase a refuse truck, but with some specific requirements.
Andy explains: “I needed a Rear End Loader for emptying skips but also with the capacity to lift 1100 litre bins and I needed it in under 6 weeks! These vehicles can be hard to find but RVS had a vehicle matching our needs and re-manufactured the body and bin lifts to such a superb standard. The vehicle is unrecognisable from its original state and the service from RVS has been spot on.”
Refuse Vehicle Solutions delivered the re-manufactured Heil Big Bite on a Scania chassis with BBC Bin Lift within 6 weeks.
Spencer Law, Managing Director, Refuse Vehicle Solutions said: “We keep a rolling stock of around 30 vehicles, but if we don’t have what a customer wants we go out and find it. In most cases we can beat manufacturers’ lead times, which is important for smaller operators who need vehicles quickly to respond to customer demand.”
Over in Uxbridge, Middlesex is London Waste Solutions, one of the capital’s longest running waste management companies, set up 21 years ago by managing director Vince Whelan. Responsible for servicing some of the City’s most cherished landmarks and prestigious buildings, London Waste Solutions required a new vehicle to facilitate their new food waste collection service.
Once a vehicle had been sourced, a 2005 Daf LF 55, 4x2, 18000 gvw with an automatic gearbox and Terberg TL25 Toploader, RVS set about modifying it to take food waste, which entailed sealing and water proofing the container.
Vince said: “We usually buy new vehicles but we felt that in order to trial this new service it would make better sense to use a re-manufactured vehicle. We are delighted with the service from RVS and the vehicle is in stunning condition. We would definitely consider purchasing more vehicles from RVS in the future.”
