Brighton & Hove residents' recycling to be collected by UK's first complete electric repowered refuse truck

Brighton-based commercial waste management company, The Recycling Partnership (TRP), has purchased the UK’s first complete electric repowered refuse vehicle from Refuse Vehicle Solutions Ltd (RVS). The e-One will commence collections across the City of Brighton and Hove by the end of the year.

Jason Taylor, Group Commercial Manager, The Recycling Partnership said: “Our business is active in the environmental sector so it follows that we are very environmentally conscious and always looking for ways to improve the sustainability of our fleet. This vehicle produces zero local carbon emissions and is also much quieter and more efficient than a diesel vehicle.  It is our intention is to expand our fleet with more electric vehicles and we are simultaneously working on creating the necessary infrastructure to achieve this.  Ultimately, in the future we aim to have more (if not all) electric vehicles than diesel on the fleet.”

The Recycling Partnership belongs to the Cox Skips Group of companies and offers a wide range of services including dry mixed recycling, food waste, glass, office recycling, general waste, WEEE waste, confidential secure shredding and skip hire. The company operates a fleet of over 50 multi-collection vehicles, including 18 refuse vehicles, the majority of which were supplied by RVS.

Spencer Law, Managing Director, RVS said: “The Recycling Partnership is one of our longest standing customers and we are delighted that the first e-One will be in their capable hands. They are a great team of people who are passionate about delivering a first-class waste management service.”

The e-One has already been liveried with The Recycling Partnership logo and the company has kindly agreed to loan the vehicle back to RVS temporarily to complete its UK Demonstration Tour.  However, it will be collecting recycling around the streets of Brighton & Hove before the end of the year.

Added Jason: “We are excited to be the first commercial operator to include this kind of clean refuse vehicle technology for commercial collections and we look forward to getting more electric vehicles on the fleet.”

The e-One refuse truck is the result of a joint initiative between RVS and Dutch electric power train developers EMOSS to repower and convert diesel refuse vehicles into electric vehicles in the UK. EMOSS are already well known as the connoisseurs of electric conversion with a successful track record in the haulage, bus, tipper and sweeper vehicle sectors. The average turnaround time to convert a diesel refuse vehicle is 12-weeks.
