Cartwrights improves round efficiency and reduces carbon footprint with MOL VDK refuse truck

Telford-based Cartwrights Waste Disposal has specialised in the delivery of integrated waste management solutions and skip hire for over 35 years. Operating across the whole of Shropshire and surrounding areas, their customers range from SME’s to blue-chip multinationals. The company is committed to its customers and the planet, with a Zero to Landfill policy that ensures 100% of the waste collected is recycled, facilitated by its own fully licensed waste transfer station and recycling centre.

Cartwrights provides trade waste collection services, skip and grab hire and Roll on Roll Off Hire as well as tipping facilities. The company operates a fleet of 20+ vehicles including refuse vehicles, skip lorries, hook loaders and arctics. In 2020 the company invested in a MOL VDK 26T Pusher 4000 Rear End Loader.

Scott Smith, Transport Manager, Cartwrights: “We bought the MOL vehicle 13 months ago to increase our capacity to meet increasing demand and reduce our carbon footprint.  The vehicle has forks as well as the Rear End Loader, so we can lift bales and pallets as well as bins. We can do the whole round with one vehicle rather than two, which means we are much more fuel and cost-efficient.

“I can’t fault the vehicle; we’ve had no issues. It’s very robust and well-engineered. There are less niggles than with other manufacturers’ vehicles and it’s much easier to fix if anything does happen.”

Cartwrights are so impressed with the vehicle that they are currently in the process of ordering a second vehicle from us.

Scott added: “The new vehicle will have an integral food pod so that we can collect food waste and further enhance our round efficiency.

“We have bought and hired refuse vehicles from RVS, so we know them well and they are brilliant to deal with. It’s great that they are now UK distributors for MOL because it means that we can source all of our vehicles, irrespective of the make or model, all under one roof.   They can also help with servicing, repairs, maintenance, replacement vehicles and parts if and when we need support, which is a real bonus.”

RVS provides the complete range of services for refuse vehicle operators, including new or quality used vehicles for sale, vehicle remanufacturing, a substantial hire fleet, preventative maintenance, repairs, its own tyre department, breakdown, parts, finance and vehicle transportation. We recently joined forces with Dutch company EMOSS, to launch a UK-wide electric repowering solution, converting diesel refuse vehicles into electric refuse vehicles. The e-One refuse vehicle is zero emissions and zero noise and offers savings of up to £50,000 compared with a brand-new electric vehicle. It comes with a five-year battery, body and bin lift warranty.
