The National Refuse Championships 2019

Over 26 teams competed in the races this year and Grist Environmental, a family-run waste and recycling company from Devizes in Wiltshire managed to battle their way through numerous heats and the semi-final to win the National Refuse Champions 2019 trophy. Other teams, in addition to many of the companies already mentioned, included Biffa Sussex, Amey, VWS, Smiths, Cartwrights, Keir and Oxford Direct Services.

Marcus Grist, Events Director, Grist Environmental and Team Captain/Driver: “It was a great day and the sportsmanship between the teams was fantastic. Our families had a superb time too; the children loved getting inside the trucks, as well as all the giveaways. Huge thanks to Spencer, Tracy and the team for all their hard work. The Alzheimer’s Society is a great charity and I hope we’ve done them proud again.”

Tip-Top CAZ-ready fleet at Jones Skips!

Jones Skips is the largest family recycling company in the Midlands and we’ve just provided them with two brand-new RediTrucks ready for the introduction of the Birmingham Clean Air Zone (CAZ) in January 2020.

Lyndon Rusby, Managing Director, Jones Skips: “We have set ourselves a target to have no vehicles over 3 years old by 2021 and we are already nearly there. Thanks to our team of expert engineers, our vehicles are kept in tip-top condition, so we have one of the best fleets in the country even when compared to the larger national companies.”

The vehicles, which are are both 26T 6x2 rear steer DAF, Dennis Olympus with Beta trade lifts, were delivered in under 3 months thanks to RVS’ RediTruck service, which gives operators access to the latest refuse vehicle technology without having to wait long lead times.

RVS fleet ‘stars’ in BBC1 War on Plastic!

Five refuse trucks from our hire fleet were used to film a ‘shocking’ intro for the recent BBC1 War on Plastic with Hugh and Anita series.

The trucks appear in the opening sequence of episode one, aired on Monday 10 June, which shows a convoy of RVS refuse vehicles, filled with plastic, driving to Whitmore Bay, Barry Island. The vehicles then appear to dump their loads straight into sea, whilst presenter Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall explains that this is happening globally every minute.

The series was designed to shock and engage viewers, to convey how much plastic is ending up in our oceans every day. We were delighted to be involved in the show and we hope it makes a difference to how we all think about, and change, the way we buy, use and dispose of plastic.

The 3-part series is available on iPlayer.
