One of the UK’s largest unitary authorities, Wiltshire Council, has chosen to replace some of their existing Recycling vehicles with quality used and re-manufactured vehicles from leading UK supplier Refuse Vehicle Solutions Ltd (RVS)
Ian Mckinnon, Fleet Transport Officer, Wiltshire Council quoted: “We needed to reduce our capital spend on vehicles and decided to look at the second hand market. We were impressed with the quality of vehicles and workmanship delivered by RVS and since our initial order last year we have purchased additional vehicles.”
To date Wiltshire Council has purchased three quality used Recycling Kerbsiders, all Mercedes Econic chassis with Terberg bodies, and are pending the arrival of a fourth. The authority also had one of its own vehicles re-manufactured by RVS before putting it back into service. All these vehicles are operated by contractor Hills Waste Solutions on a recycling contract in Wiltshire.
Ian continued: “The vehicles were presented in an excellent condition and we monitor their performance keeping a close eye on any maintenance costs. So far it is proving to be a very cost effective solution and I wouldn’t hesitate to consider re-manufactured or second hand vehicles in the future. The service and customer care from RVS has been exemplary.”
A leading provider of both quality used and re-manufactured refuse vehicles, RVS specialises in revitalising second hand dust-carts, stripping them down and replacing or repairing worn and defective parts, to provide high quality ‘as-new’ vehicles that cost a fraction of the expense of a new vehicle. The company also offers a host of additional services including vehicle financing, low-loader delivery and an extensive spare parts service specialising in second-hand and reconditioned components.
Spencer Law, Managing Director, RVS said: “It’s been a pleasure working with Wiltshire Council and we hope to continue helping them increase the longevity of their fleet in the most cost efficient way.”
